Cremation costs vary acroos the United States. The range is from $625 to $2200

The two questions I receive often “What  is cremation and what is the cost?

Here is what cremation involves.

  • Cremation involves putting a wooden casket or  cardboard container holding the body into a chamber.
  • The temperature is raised to between 1,400 and 1,800 degrees in newer cremation facilities 2100 degrees.
  • Organic matter is consumed in two to three hours.
  • After that remaining bone fragments are crushed into fine particles.
  • The  weight is 4 to 6 pounds of remains.
  • Cremains are then placed in a temporary container provided by the crematory
  • Afterwords they can be placed in an urn purchased by the family anywhere.
  • Considerate crematory operators allow family to be present during the cremation. Here are the costs involved with cremation.

The costs involved with cremation:

  • The cost of the cremation process is around $400.00 USD.

If you choose cremation and an urn please discuss it with your family

  • Costs vary from Cremation facility to cremation facility and funeral home to funeral home. The Range is between $625.00 USD and $2200.00 USD across the United States.

It is up to the consumer to determine and negotiate a fair price for a cremation.

Reported in the News:700 Year Old Teenager given a Proper Burial

Reported in the News:700 Year Old Teenager given a Proper Burial

Seven hundred years later Holly, a teenager has been given a proper funeral. She was named Holly because she was found under a Holly Bush. She had been beheaded because she was either a witch, criminal or had committed suicide. It was a combined Episcopal and Roman Catholic Services.

“‘We wanted to put her back where she should have been when she first died, and we will be placing her with her head on her shoulders as it should be.

‘Execution in those days would have been for such things as witchcraft, so if they had gone so far as to take her head off, she would have had to have committed a mortal sin”

No Matter where Society goes-There will be respect for the Dead. Rest in Peace Holly.

One in Four Funeral Homes Violate the Law according to an undercover Federal Trade Commission Investigation.

One in Four Funeral Homes Violate the Law according to an undercover Federal Trade Commission Investigation.

Recently, The Federal Trade Commission dispatched undercover agents to 14 funeral homes in 7 states. The FTC then  issued a report that 25% of Funeral Homes had violations of  law. The Funeral Rule  is intended to protect you and your funeral cost.

This is not good for the Consumer. The FTC Inspection process is flawed because there are 21,000+ Funeral Homes in the United States. The number of Funeral Home investigations by the FTC amounts to “0″ Regulation as was the case just before the Wall Street Crash. I am not predicting a crash in the funeral industry now but their are are some signs on the horizon.

Here are the detailed results from the report from the FTC website.

“FTC inspections during 2008 revealed a mixed compliance record“:

  • In Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska, two of 11 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; five had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Northeastern Arkansas, 11 of 15 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; four had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Orange County, California, two significant violations were found among 18 funeral homes inspected; nine had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, one of 16 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; seven had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Nassau County, New York, two of 18 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; three had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Toledo, Ohio, one of 15 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; nine had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In San Antonio, Texas, seven of 11 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; one had

    minor compliance deficiencies.

A mixed compliance report means you must stand ready to negotiate a lower cost funeral.

When you walk into a Funeral Home you must be prepared to make them follow the law, the funeral rule.

Funeral Directors in Illinois brought a lawsuit against the Illinois Funeral Directors Association.

Funeral Directors in Illinois brought a lawsuit against the Illinois Funeral Directors Association.

The list of six Funeral Homes- Funeral Directors have been made available on the Internet. Your Funeral  Guy’s opinion is that the list of six who sued the IFDA should be avoided. Here is why; If they did not exercise due dilligence with their own funeral preneed funds, how can they be trusted with your funeral money?

The Illinois Funeral Directors missapplied preneed funds for their own Ponzi Scheme and for personal purposes. Read the Lawsuit from 6 funeral directors here. In fact the ones bringing the Lawsuit may be just as bad as the Illinois Funeral Directors Association and their ponzi scheme.

So if you find yourself negotiating with these folks on a lower cost funeral be sure to have your body armor on.

I see no evidence that these folks have contacted folks with non guaranteed policies aboud there losses in the IFDA Trust accounts.

For now these Funeral Homes are listed. Commentary will come in another post.
