Now Even Unions are telling you to Save on Funeral Cost. In This union publication it seems that they have taken a page out of Rest In Peace  Insiders Tips to the Low Cost Less Funeral.

The theme in this Union Article of- Shopping around, Choosing  Cremation, and buying Your casket  online is the   mantra of Your Funeral Guy Blogs and Book.

Snippet:

1. Do your homework and compare costs. This is much easier to do if the passing of the deceased was expected, but you could call ahead and ask for a price list from funeral homes.

2. Explore cremation as an option. The cost of embalming can be eliminated if completed soon after death, and you have the right to buy an inexpensive container as opposed to a pricey casket.

3. Purchase the casket on your own, outside the funeral home. These days, caskets are available through the Internet, funeral supply stores, and even Walmart.com. All carry caskets at reduced prices, and funeral directors are required by law to accept them and not charge extra fees to do so.

Funeral Planning Advice: How to Lower The Cost of Funeral Arrangements

The post suggests the way to lower your funeral cost  is to lower your casket cost,  do not purchase clothes, cut back on funeral flowers and eliminate catering.

The  is a a real lame  attempt  to limit funeral cost. As I have a often stated  a real lower cost funeral can be done by

Choosing Cremation,

Purchasing a Casket on the Internet and

Having a funeral home at a location other than the funeral home.

The snnipet from the post below is nothing but a lame attempt at a lower cost funeral:

First, consider skipping the fancy casket unless you know it’s something your loved one would have wanted. Casket costs make up a huge percent of the expense of a funeral. By selecting an elegant but simple casket, you can save an incredible amount of money. We can help you to choose from a variety of styles that fit your needs and your budget.

Bury your loved one in his or her favorite clothes from life instead of purchasing a new outfit for the burial. By having your loved one dressed in his or her personal clothing, the funeral will have a more personal and honest feeling, not to mention saving your family money that you may not have set aside.

Consider forgoing fancy flower arrangements and bringing wildflowers or flowers from the garden. Many of those in attendance will also bring flowers to the funeral home, which may make the purchase of additional flower arrangements unnecessary.

Pass on the catering. Instead, plan a simple gathering with coffee and cookies following the service. If you would like to have a meal together, ask guests to bring a dish to pass. Catering can be very costly, especially if there are many loved ones who would like to attend.

Cremation is the easiest way to a lower cost funeral

Cremation is the easiest way to a lower cost funeral

The way to make a lower cost funeral happen is to choose cremation. If you are a Consumer  this is the best way to lower your funeral cost. This is happening around the country, Now!

Yes Cremation is growing in Oklahoma. This the center of the Bible Belt!

“The cost of funerals is rising and more families are opting for cremation — with or without a service — according to experts in the field…..Carter Bradley, who operates three area funeral homes in the county, said he’s seeing a 20 percent cremation rate. Jerry Millsap, who also operates three funeral homes in the county, says 15 to 20 percent of his business is cremations.”

One in Four Funeral Homes Violate the Law according to an undercover Federal Trade Commission Investigation.

One in Four Funeral Homes Violate the Law according to an undercover Federal Trade Commission Investigation.

Recently, The Federal Trade Commission dispatched undercover agents to 14 funeral homes in 7 states. The FTC then  issued a report that 25% of Funeral Homes had violations of  law. The Funeral Rule  is intended to protect you and your funeral cost.

This is not good for the Consumer. The FTC Inspection process is flawed because there are 21,000+ Funeral Homes in the United States. The number of Funeral Home investigations by the FTC amounts to “0″ Regulation as was the case just before the Wall Street Crash. I am not predicting a crash in the funeral industry now but their are are some signs on the horizon.

Here are the detailed results from the report from the FTC website.

“FTC inspections during 2008 revealed a mixed compliance record“:

  • In Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska, two of 11 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; five had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Northeastern Arkansas, 11 of 15 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; four had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Orange County, California, two significant violations were found among 18 funeral homes inspected; nine had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, one of 16 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; seven had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Nassau County, New York, two of 18 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; three had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Toledo, Ohio, one of 15 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; nine had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In San Antonio, Texas, seven of 11 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; one had

    minor compliance deficiencies.

A mixed compliance report means you must stand ready to negotiate a lower cost funeral.

When you walk into a Funeral Home you must be prepared to make them follow the law, the funeral rule.

Another Funeral Website is being admired around the country as model Funeral Website. This is not the website I am going to refer to you.

Instead I am going to refer you to a Low Funeral Cost Website. It comes from Barton Family Funeral Service in Kirkland, Washington.

Here is a quote:from the website:
“Our fees for everything from a full traditional funeral, to a simple direct cremation, or to an assisted home funeral are substantially lower than the charges of large corporate funeral companies because we have eliminated the massive expense of maintaining ostentatious buildings, grounds, gardens, and fleets of vehicles. Instead, funerals are held in churches, homes, or other suitable facilities depending on the size of the funeral and the desires of the family. Often a graveside service is preferred, and occasionally no ceremony at all is appropriate. We can help you with your own home funeral or suggest a meaningful alternative funeral process. Our services are adapted to the exact needs of each family.
Summarizing

1Simple Direct Cremation.

2Other facilities.

3Home funeral.

4Graveside Service only available

5.Family Needs first.

Lots of quality information.
