IFDA$$-The Media May be Giving the IFDA Preneed Trust a pass. The Media may be pro IFDA, Illinois Funeral Directors Association, and is not against the funeral industry just because they do not cover any project or any book on funerals. They are not waiting with baited breath for the next funeral screw up or scandal.

Recently in Illinois the Illinois Funeral Director’s association lost 40 million dollars out of the IFDA Preneed Trust Fund. One newspaper covered this in one article. A 40 million dollar loss contributes to the funeral director bad guy image. The IFDA is close to all the Funeral Homes in the State of Illinois participating in the IFDA Preneed Trust Scandal. This is truly sad and the details can be called horrific.

It is quite simple really. The media needs the Funeral Director to sell it’s product. The main media that Funeral Director’s help sell is the newspaper through the obituary, obituaries. Sadly both the newspaper and the traditional funeral director are dying…both are having to change or lose it all.

The focus on the Funeral Industry needs to be the 21st century. The focus needs to be on the future and not so much the past. Gary Laderman’s book Rest in Peace, is on the 20th century. Surely there needs to be a focus on a 21st Century Rest in Peace.

The IFDA needs to declare publicly the.info on Key Guy insurance within the IFDA . I have had contact with key guy insurance policies. They range from hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions of dollars. This could very well be the problem with the IFDA Preneed Trust

Who on their board have they loaned money to? The IFDA (Illinois Funeral Director’s Association )has admitted to this.

Geoffrey W. Hurd, the recent IFDA President has written a letter about this. You can view it here:

http://www.ifda.org/trustupdate.html

The IFDA has not told what happened to the first new Trustee!

State Senator Randall Hultgren of the State of Illinois has also refused to tell us where the IFDA Preneed Trust 40 Million dollars went. We need to know what happened to the people’s Funeral Cost money.

IFDA Preneed Trust Scandal 40 million of Funeral cost Scandal! Outgoing President of the IFDA turns to yet another trustee. Funeral Cost money loss has not been explained!

WE STIll do not where the money went!

Here is the quote about the new potential a company that has been involved with quite a few scandals of it’s own! Note this is not the Company previously announced!

A quote on IFDA’s new explanation of the preneed trust is here.

” Iam very pleased to share with you good news from IFDA.

With the approval of state regulators, Merrill Lynch Bank & Trust Co. FSB, ( a wholly-owned subsidiary of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc.) through its trust division, Merrill Lynch Trust Company (“MLTC”), has agreed to become Trustee of the IFDA Preneed Trust on a temporary basis. A highly respected trust company with personal trust assets under administration in excess of $20 billion, MLTC is regulated by the U.S. Department of the Treasury Office of Thrift Supervision. This means after two years of intense work and negotiations, the regulatory timeline mandated for IFDA to find a trustee has been achieved.”

You can find the full quote from outgoing President Geoffrey Hurd here:

http://www.ifda.org/trustupdate.html

It still remains an unwise choice to use IFDA trust insurance.

What happened to the previous company that was going to handle the trust?

Why are political leaders silent on this?

Officials elected with Preneed Funds refuse to call IFDA to Account.

State Senator Randall Hultgren recently put forth legislation in the State of Illinois ….to recall politicians but has continually refused to bring accountability on his political career with his connection to preneed funds and IFDA mismanagement of the IFDA Preneed Trust.

Coming from a funeral family who has sold and profited from preneed funds and the IFDA Preneed Trust funds almost since it’s beginning in the 1980′s he and his family have consistently refused to talk about this. The continuing Preneed Scandals.

If the State Senator was a true reformer and not just a partisan republican politician…he would move into honest truth.

From his website he purports to be a reformer:

“Voters won’t have the opportunity to decide whether or not they should be able to recall elected officials, said State Senator Randy Hultgren (R-Wheaton). Senator Hultgren supported the proposed recall amendment and said he was frustrated by political game-playing over the proposal.”

Read about his own thoughts on reform.

The link to all his reformer comments are here:

The State Senator needs to be honest and speak about political game game playing with preneed funds that brought him to office in the first place through Hultgren Funeral Home.

Despite the 40 Million dollar IFDA Preneed Trust Deficit Hultgren Funeral Home continues to associate with preneed and the IFDA. Check out the Hultgren Funeral home website for more information. Clean up your own house before trying to clean the state legislature Senator Hultgren.

NPS Closes Down, Every One at NPS on Permanent Layoff, and there is more funeral cost problems with pre-need and pre-paid funerals!

This is clearly another example of a Preneed Scandal.

There are clear signs of the Preneed Scandal that are in every preneed scandal

1. The Funeral Person takes the money.

2. The funds do not reach the final destination or stay in the Final Destination.

Here is what your Funeral Guy received from the IFDA on April 11, 2008,

The Funeral Service Insider is reporting that National Prearranged Services has shut down its operations. The Insider also reports that NPS will now only pay the face amounts of their policies.

The facts behind the implosion of this once-successful preneed company are complicated and murky, but it’s alleged that monies sent in for preneed policies were only partially sent to their final destination. The preneed funds were converted into five year policies for the lower monthly premiums. Then the monthly premiums were sent in rather than the entire original deposit. It’s not yet known what happened to the portion of funds never sent in.”

Indeed this is truly sad… Another blackmark on the Funeral Industry!

I will comment on the Illinois Comptroller’s Press Release:

in the next blog post. see the press release with Frequently Asked Questions page,
