Will The Illinois Funeral Directors Association soon Rest in Peace?

Will The Illinois Funeral Directors Association soon Rest in Peace?

Revealed here is some interesting news in the Illinois Funeral Directors Association Ponzi Sheme. The comptroller of the State of Illinois has demanded that Funeral Leaders in the State repay 10 million dollars. This is because they took excess fees out of the IFDA Preneed Trust.(more than allowed by law). This was a classic insurance ponzi scheme where 59 million dollars was lost.

One funeral director in Illinois has stated that this will be the makings of a funeral for the Illinois Funeral Directors Association.

“The next board of IFDA due to be seated and sworn in next month just might be in charge of making funeral arrangements for our once great association. I’m not sure at this point she can be saved. Arrangements pending?” -fromyourfuneralguy.wordpress.com

Certainly the Illinois Funeral directors  Association is in great trouble and probably near death. There are two high profile lawsuits going on and a third where the IFDA  insurer is suing (lawsuit against)the association so as to not to pay for the lawsuits or potential damages!

From the “Chicago Tribune, May 13th 2009

THE COMPTROLLER OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS HAS DECLARED ILLINOIS FUNERAL LEADERS GREEDY AND DEMAND THEY RETURN 10 MILLLION DOLLARS.

THE COMPTROLLER OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS HAS DECLARED ILLINOIS FUNERAL LEADERS GREEDY AND DEMAND THEY RETURN 10 MILLLION DOLLARS.

Hynes asked the Illinois Funeral Directors Association to return $9.6 million in management fees taken from 2000 to 2006 to administer the trust. He accused the association of charging more than the legal limit.

These excess management fees are a display of greed and a betrayal of the consumer trust that will not be tolerated,” Hynes said.
The association, which in the past has denied that the fees were excessive, maintained its position.”

The Tribune Article then goes on to show how the Illiniois Funeral Directors Association has defied the Comptroller of the State of Illinois.

THE DEATH OF THE IFDA HAS BEEN PREDICTED AT THIS BLOG. Check out these posts.

Revealed Full Text IFDA First Lawsuit

Revealed Full Text IFDA First Lawsuit

Today I am making available to you the full IFDA (Illinois Funeral Directors Association Lawsuit#1. For a year I did research on the Illinois Funeral Directors Association IFDA Preneed Trust Scandal. Sometimes I regret that I have done the work. There has been much information in the Press of Late on this.

This is posted here by requests-Lawyers, The News media and Funeral Directors in the State of Illinois and across the USA are all interested in this. It is relevant to the average cost of a funeral in Illinois.

However Lawsuits are generally boring and only a few folks are interested. Here is the link to the full lawsuit: IFDA(Illinois Funeral Directors Association Class Action Complaint filed through a Lawyer on behalf of two IFDA Preneed Trust Contract  Holders in Kane County,IL. This will save a trip to the courthouse for some.

Glad that’s done. In the long run this will lower Funeral Cost in the State of Illinois and be a plus for the funeral industry. Clearly some funeral directors  will disagree.

Attention has been drawn to this situation because of the involvement of Senator Roland Burris(D-IL) the State of Illinois Junior Senator. Mark my words long term the average cost of a funeral will be lower because of this suit.

Every Funeral Dollar is Important

Every Funeral Dollar is Important

The Illinois Funeral Directors lawsuit matters because Your Funeral Money Matters. Every funeral dollar is important as is Your Loved One. This is brought home to the consumer by looking at preneed trusts as a tool to handle your funeral cost. In Illinois there are now two lawsuits against the Illinois Funeral Directors Association around  their trust fund.

One lawsuit is from last November and another one is from January 2009. One is a consumer protection lawsuit that is seeking to become a class action suit and another is a lawsuit by six funeral homes in Illinois. The comptroller’s office in  of the State of Illinois states that funeral homes have to honor their contract with Consumers.

When Funeral Money is  mismanaged by Funeral Industry companies or Funeral Homes your funeral costs rise.  Cost goes up for the consumer and providers because funeral directors have to make up for their losses.

In 2008 there were two major fund losses in 2009, NPS or National Prearranged Services (300-500 Million Loss) and the IFDA 59 million Loss.

Sadly folks are still purchasing policies from the IFDA preneed trust. This according to current IFDA President James Bosma.

IFDA E-News Bulletin

Hi Robert!

In this issue, you’ll read:
President’s Message: It’s a New Year

by Jim Bosma”

“On another front, the new IFDA Trust is doing really well. The Trust is enjoying great activity from deposits and its performance in November and December was positive – even with the dismal economic performance of the nation’s economy. That’s more good news.”

Why are people still buying Illinois Funeral Director Association Preneed Trust policies?

If some one for undisclosed reasons lost 59 million in a fund. Would you put one more dollar of your money in the fund?

Maybe it is because folks do not know the dangers involved with preneed funds.

Please do not put $1 in preneed

Please do not put $1 in preneed

Please do not put your dollars in preneed funds, do a low cost funeral instead.——-Your Funeral Guy

Senator Roland Burris

Senator Roland Burris

Senator Roland Burris Please Let us know about the 30 Year  old  Lower Cost Funeral mistake. Generally i do not like to speak about the mistakes I made thirty years ago. Some of them still haunt me today.

Back in 1979, you issued a license as Comptroller to the Illinois Funeral Directors Association (IFDA). I am sure that at that time you were helping folks with a lower cost funeral.

There is a problem. Over the  years the IFDA lost,  mismanaged, misused or stole  59 million dollars of the fund.  The current Comptroller took away the license of the IFDA to manage the fund.In 2007 and maybe 2008 you turned up as a lobbyist for these guys. No matter what bookkeepinng method  used, you were paid out of the fund. In 2008 you were nominated to the US Senate and took office in 2009. Please give an Explanation.

From the IFDA’s  Website:

“The IFDA Preneed Trust, established in 1979, can assist you in achieving optimum growth with safety for prefinanced funeral arrangements. IFDA provides free agreement forms, line of credit coverage, promotional brochures and total administrative services to participating member firms. We offer a wide variety of services to our members and the public, including a credit union, master trust, funeral financing, legislative lobbying, a job location service and more.”

Just tell us Senator Burris. The State of Illinois wants to know. So does the funeral industry.

Recently Chris Matthews almost joked about Roland Burris and helping Funeral homes raise funeral cost. He mentioned about Burris:

“Jan. 19th 2009-Chris Matthews of MSNBC’s “Hardball” told viewers today that Sen.-Designate Roland Burris advocates funeral planning. Hey, it beats letting your family foot the bill — and it helps your local mortuary improve cash flow while you’re still alive.”

Check out the full post here:

Funeral Planning when combined with preneed builds the local mortuary, or Funeral Home’s cash flow because it allows the funeral home to get the Interest on your money.

In a previous post we have discussed Roland Burris and his lobbying efforts with the Illinois Funeral Directors Association. We have also mentioned questionable ties to the IFDA Preneed Trust Fund.

Comments like Chris Matthew’s referring to a New Senator with Questionable ties to the Funeral Industry in a postive light is not good for the United States of America.
